Okay….okay….
Bear with me.
I know I’m a devotional blog. But we gotta talk about this. What do you guys think?
I thought….well wait. For those who dont know? The Chosen is a free online TV series about the life of Christ through the eyes of the people who followed Him.
Now there have been a lot of videos that I watched and personal conversations I’ve had with people who have problems with the series.
But doesn’t it say:
38 Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.”
39 But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. 40 For he who is not against [a]us is on [b]our side. 41 For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.
Mark 9:38-41
Right?
I can personally attest to people talking more about Jesus just from this series. But when does it cross the line?
I had a conversation with a non-Christian who noted: “They made Jesus seem too human”
Which I think is a good point. We as Christians – or at least I have – view Jesus as super serious, never making jokes, always correcting people type of guy. And I love how this series changed that. Cause Jesus was fully human! Of course He laughed. Of course He made jokes.
But – what about those moments that are not in the bible. I will admit that I spent a lot of time … too much in my opinion .. telling my kids: “This is not biblical”
For example? That really bothered me when Jesus and John the baptizer had that talk. John is the only one who knew who Jesus truly was – he would never speak to Jesus like that.
The season finale? Wasn’t what they kept promoting it at. But seriously – Jesus on a stage? Really? When I think of someone on stage – I think someone who is full of themselves. Who thinks they are better than everyone. And Jesus asking them to plan out the sermon on the mount? Really? That leans too much into the human part dont you think?
But then again – yes. There’s artistic license. Right?
Well…..
18 [a]For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, [b]God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God[c] shall take away his part from the [d]Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Revelation 22:18-19
I know theres artistic license – but when is too much too much? I really want to know what you think. I mean I know this is changing lives. And praise the Lord for that. But more often than not? I’m seeing people aligning themselves with the series instead of the bible.
“The Chosen saved my life”
Ummmmm want to try that again?
Man there is just something that is not sitting right with me. I mean don’t get me wrong – I so love the fact that there is something I can finally watch with my family without having to reach for the remote every 5 seconds. I love the message. I love that peoples lives are being changed. But is it on the right path?
What are your thoughts?
