Be quiet!

Prayer has always been allusive to me.

“How do you pray?” Was my constant question.

For a looong while I had this idea that you needed to say certain words so that God would listen to you.

I know, I know.

I remember when I was 16 I was sitting in a prayer group when the leader said: “don’t pray out loud or God won’t hear you” I think they were thinking along these lines:

“And when you pray, you shall not be like the [a]hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

Matthew 6:5
New King James Version

Remember the church I was at wasn’t the best.

Man. That messed me up for years. I would sometimes find myself repeating prayers cause part of it I said out loud.

But that’s not true. That’s not even close to what God says.

Look at the Psalms….time after time how David just “cried out to God” or “called upon the Lord

Friends….I went to class after class, years…trying to learn how to pray right.

I learned the ACTS method. (Adoration Confession Thanksgiving Supplication) … I learned the Lords Prayer … I learned the Jabez prayer.

What did I learn? “Vain repetitious” prayer.

I struggled for many years but in my thirties? I finally realized that God just wants to talk with you. He wants to hear from you.

14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

1 John 5:14
New King James Version
(emphasis mine)

There are many ways to talk to God. But the important thing is to talk. Talk to God. Dont worry about how you are praying – we are human. The way you pray will change with time and age and all that jazz.

Just talk to Him. Cry out to Jesus.

I challenge you friends. Right now this second talk to Him like you would your friend/family/significant other/whoever is in the room…..cause He’s right there in the room with you.

Talk to Him. He loves you.
