This little light of mine …. I’m gonna let it shine … let it shine …. and honestly i dont remember how the rest of the song goes. Heres the full lyric video if you want. But anyways. Just shine. what does that mean? I mean I see so many people have these ideas and convictions but what does it really mean?
Does it mean scream from the mountain tops about your convictions?
Does it mean beat people with the bible?
Does it mean praying for the lost?
Does it mean getting into arguments with people about things that dont matter?
What does it mean?
I had this conversation with my kids recently. What does it mean to shine your light for Jesus? what does it mean to be a witness for Christ? My kids both suffer from sometimes crippling anxiety. Many things I could say – but this is not about them. so I shared with them what I share with you.
I mean theres so much to say…but how about you have that conversation with God about that?
I can tell you that theres a simple fact – we need to share the gospel to those that are lost. But how? When? thats between you and God.
Pray about it. But be prepared cause God will bring the person right around to ya.
I remember one time I was challenged to pray the following: Lord open my eyes to know when its the right time to witness to someone. I am ready to witness – show me to who.
Or something along those lines.
Literally the next day I was home and someone came to the door to either sell something or save me. I scooted them on there way and went about my business. As they walked away, I heard a voice – that was the person you were supposed to witness to.
God will show you so plainly and obviously – but you gotta be prepared for it.
But sometimes – the only thing we need to do friend? Is be that light. What does a light do? It doesnt talk, it does scream, it just shines. Be that servant. Do those dishes when you REALLY dont want to. Offer a hug. Smile. Be patient. Be kind. Its ridiculously hard – but its what God calls us to do.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
