i’m not jealous

i love my husband, hes kind. loving. funny. … i could go on but lets get to the story. When we first started dating and getting to know each other he said to me: “i’m not the jealous type. i know and trust you.” so foolishly i took him at his word. And i would talk about old crushes and actors who i thought were cute. No reactions so i thought – “wow. i got a good one” then? Well then i talked about Johnny Depp.

I started watching Johnny Depp in 21 Jump street. I had the huuuuuuuuuuuugest crush on him for years. Now its just turned into admiration – he really is a great actor. But here’s the thing: i would gush about johnny depp to the point that now? My husband hates and i mean hates johnny depp.

Ugh. really Jess? Again?

He’s so weird.

He even looks funny….

That last one got me: “Holy crap he’s jealous!”

I thought it was funny – my husband is usually so levelheaded but when it came to Johnny Depp?

so i stopped. And its tapered off to the occasional eye roll and … “I can’t believe you are watching that stupidity” whenever I watch a movie of his.

But it got me thinking about God as it should …

you shall not bow down to them nor [a]serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting[b] the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

exodus 20:5

Our God is a jealous God. He wants all of our attention and when we don’t give it to Him? Does He strike down His wrath? Does He kill us? Does He give up?

He sends little reminders to you. Like “Hey whats happening” type deals. He is a patient loving God (see 2 Peter 3:9) and He gives us free will (see Mark 8:34). Meaning He is gonna give us the ability to make our own choices. Therefore we choose to follow other gods – its up to us.

But that doesnt mean He wont keep seeking you and loving you. He’s patiently waiting for you to choose Him.

so what are you waiting for?
